Residents of Kabatini in Nakuru County are in shock after a 49-year-old man allegedly killed his lover in what police describe as a crime of passion.
The suspect, Paul Ndung’u, is accused of attacking 42-year-old widow Mary Njoki Mburu on Sunday night following a domestic dispute.
Reports indicate that Njoki had been living with Ndung’u after the death of her husband. Their relationship reportedly soured when Ndung’u suspected her of being involved with another man.
On the night of the incident, Ndung’u allegedly found Njoki with another companion. In a fit of rage, he attacked her with a machete, inflicting deep cuts.
The following morning, Ndung’u walked into Bahati Police Station claiming he had been assaulted by his lover.
Police officers, however, were shocked when they visited the couple’s home and found Njoki’s lifeless body lying on blood-soaked bedsheets.
Her body was taken to the mortuary after the crime scene was processed. Ndung’u was arrested and is expected to face charges in court.
Residents of Kabatini condemned the killing, describing it as another case of domestic violence in the area.
They expressed concern over rising cases of intimate partner violence and called for stronger measures to protect vulnerable individuals.
Local authorities urged couples to resolve disputes peacefully and seek counseling instead of resorting to violence.
Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and justice will be served.
