Drama unfolded at the home of Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka in Utawala, Nairobi, during a high-profile condolence visit following the death of his mother, Mama Teresia Nyaboke Omoke.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi led a delegation of senators to condole with the family, but the sombre occasion took a fiery political turn when outspoken lawyer Ndegwa Njiru boldly confronted the Speaker.
In a viral video circulating on social media, Wakili Ndegwa Njiru did not mince his words as he stood before Speaker Kingi and other mourners.
“Mr Speaker, tell Ruto he is wantam. We’ll send him home in 2027. He has failed Kenyans on all fronts,” Njiru declared, sparking immediate uproar and mixed reactions among those present.
The lawyer used the mourning gathering to vent public frustrations over economic hardships, governance failures, and unfulfilled promises.
His remarks, delivered directly to Kingi a close ally of President William Ruto turned the condolence meeting into a political battlefield, leaving many mourners stunned.
Speaker Kingi, who had earlier posted photos of the visit alongside senators signing the condolence book beside Mama Teresia’s portrait, remained composed during the tense moment.
The delegation’s visit was meant to show solidarity with Senator RichardOnyonka, whose mother was remembered as a pillar of strength in the Gusii community.
The incident has since dominated online conversations, with Kenyans divided. Supporters of the lawyer praised his courage for voicing public discontent even in a private mourning setting.
Another section of Kenyans condemned it as disrespectful to the grieving family.
“This is not the time or place,” some mourners felt, yet the clip continues to ignite debates about Ruto’s leadership ahead of 2027.
