Fresh Twist in Gachagua Impeachment Case After Court Retains Explosive Affidavit by Dan Gikonyo

The High Court has declined to strike out an affidavit filed by Karen Hospital director Dr. Dan Gikonyo in a case linked to the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, paving the way for the matter to proceed to the next stage of hearing.

In its latest direction, the court ordered the Attorney General and Parliament to file their responses to the case by May 13, as legal proceedings surrounding the controversial impeachment process continue to unfold.

The affidavit by Dr. Gikonyo reportedly contains claims linking President William Ruto to events surrounding Gachagua’s impeachment, allegations that have attracted significant political and public attention.

Lawyers seeking to have the affidavit removed from the court record had argued that parts of the document were improper and should not form part of the proceedings.

However, the High Court declined the request, allowing the affidavit to remain on record pending further directions and responses from the parties involved.

The decision now means the claims raised in the affidavit may continue to feature in the broader legal battle surrounding the impeachment dispute.

The Attorney General and Parliament were directed to respond to the matters raised before the next mention of the case.

The court’s ruling marks another development in a matter that has continued to generate intense political debate and legal scrutiny across the country.

The impeachment issue has remained one of the most closely watched political and constitutional disputes in recent months, drawing reactions from both government allies and opposition figures.

Dr. Dan Gikonyo, a prominent medical practitioner and director of Karen Hospital, became part of the proceedings after filing the affidavit that introduced fresh claims into the case.
