Fresh details have emerged surrounding the shocking attack on gospel musician Rachel Wandeto, a mother of two who was reportedly assaulted while heading home in the Kasarani area of Nairobi.
Rachel, originally from Kirinyaga County, had been residing in Kasarani before the tragic incident that left her with life-threatening burn injuries.
According to information Rachel allegedly shared before her health condition worsened, she noticed two unidentified men trailing her as she walked home at night.
At first, she reportedly did not suspect any danger and assumed the men were ordinary pedestrians. However, the situation quickly escalated after the suspects confronted her and allegedly demanded money from her.
Rachel is said to have recalled the attackers telling her, “Ebu tutumie pesa ulipewa,” suggesting they believed she had recently received money and wanted her to transfer it to them.
She reportedly informed the men that she did not have any money and could not assist them financially.
Moments later, the encounter allegedly turned violent. Rachel claimed the attackers poured a corrosive substance believed to be acid on different parts of her body, including her head and legs, causing severe burns and intense pain.
In an even more horrifying twist, the suspects allegedly set her on fire before escaping, leaving her lying helpless by the roadside in critical condition.
Despite the severity of the attack, Rachel reportedly managed to scream for assistance, attracting the attention of a well-wisher who came to her rescue.
She was initially rushed to a nearby hospital in Uzima for emergency care before later being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized treatment because of the extent of her injuries.
Rachel Wandeto had previously gained public attention online due to her outspoken admiration for Kenyan President William Ruto. Reports indicated that she had even tattooed the President’s name on her body as a demonstration of loyalty and support.
The disturbing incident has sparked widespread reactions across social media, with many Kenyans demanding thorough investigations and justice for the gospel singer.
Others have raised concerns over increasing insecurity and the growing number of violent attacks targeting women in different parts of the country.
