Jubilee Party Deputy Party Leader (Operations) Jeremiah Kioni has projected a possible shift in Kenya’s political alignment ahead of the 2027 general election, suggesting that President William Ruto may not seek re-election under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) banner.
Kioni argues that the political environment in the Mt Kenya region is undergoing gradual transformation, a factor he believes could weaken UDA’s current dominance unless the party restructures its strategy or reconsiders its political arrangements.
He hints that these changes may even pave the way for the emergence of a new political formation before the next polls.
In his assessment, Kioni foresees a scenario where only a small number of leaders in Mt Kenya may continue operating within UDA’s framework.
He specifically points to National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah as one of the few figures he expects to remain firmly aligned with the ruling party’s structure and direction.
According to him, other leaders could progressively adjust their political positions as competition for influence in the region intensifies. He links this to the broader recalibration of alliances that often characterizes Kenya’s pre-election periods.
Kioni’s remarks come amid growing political debate over potential realignments within the Kenya Kwanza coalition and the wider national political scene as attention slowly turns toward 2027.
Although President Ruto and UDA officials have not responded to the claims, the comments have already stirred conversation among political stakeholders and observers, many interpreting them as part of early election positioning.
As political activity gathers pace, the forecast highlights expectations of shifting alliances, renewed negotiations, and possible party reorganization that could reshape Kenya’s electoral contest in the coming years.
