Orengo Boldly Names the Only Two Political Giants From Nyanza Who Are Widely Known Nationwide

Siaya Governor James Orengo has stirred up a massive political debate across the country after declaring himself the de facto leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

In a bold statement that is already sending shockwaves through the political landscape, the veteran lawyer firmly dismissed claims that ODM is a regional outfit, asserting that its influence stretches far beyond its traditional strongholds.

However, it is his unexpected declaration about the political heavyweights from the Nyanza region that has captured everyone's attention.

Speaking on Monday, May 18, 2026, Orengo openly claimed that out of the entire Nyanza region, only two politicians command true nationwide fame and recognition.

According to the seasoned politician, anywhere he visits across Kenya, citizens instantly recognize his brand of politics.

He went on to reveal that the only other leader from the region who enjoys this level of massive national appeal and household recognition is Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino.

The Siaya county boss emphasized that ODM remains a powerful national movement rather than a village party.

By naming himself and Babu Owino as the sole individuals who are widely known from Nyanza, Orengo’s remarks are bound to sit uncomfortably with several other senior politicians from the region who also harbor national ambitions.

With the political landscape shifts happening fast ahead of future alignments, Orengo’s strong words seem strategically timed to position a specific crop of leadership within the party.

Leaving out other prominent figures from his list shows a daring confidence in his own national standing alongside the outspoken Embakasi East legislator.

Netizens are already locked in heated discussions online regarding whether the governor's assessment of regional popularity is accurate or a calculated political chess move.
