Speaking on Wednesday, March 25, Wanga maintained that the Friday convention scheduled to take place at Jamhuri Park is the only official NDC recognized under the party’s constitution.
She dismissed claims of parallel meetings, stating that any other gathering being organized outside the official framework lacks legitimacy.
“There is only one NDC called in accordance with our constitution, with proper notice issued and delegates invited. Anything else is simply confusion,” she said.

Wanga emphasized that both Sifuna and Babu are legitimate delegates by virtue of their positions within the party and should participate constructively instead of staging protests or opposing the process from outside.
“Sifuna is a delegate as Nairobi Senator, and Babu is a delegate as a member of the National Executive Council and MP. They do not need to storm anything; they simply need to attend,” she added.
Her remarks come at a time when ODM is navigating a sensitive transition period following the death of its long-time leader Raila Odinga.
Wanga called for unity within party ranks, stressing that stability is essential as the party reorganizes and prepares for its next phase.
“We have lost our leader, and that is not a small matter. The party must stabilise even as members express different views,” she noted, adding that while dissent is natural in a democratic party, it should not derail key institutional processes.
Wanga further clarified that the upcoming meeting is a special delegates conference convened specifically to ratify party officials.

She explained that a separate, ordinary NDC will be held later in the year, during which party elections will take place as required by the constitution.
“This special NDC is for ratification purposes. The ordinary NDC, which includes elections, must be held before the end of the year,” she said.
The ODM leadership has in recent days intensified efforts to calm internal tensions and maintain cohesion. Friday’s NDC is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the party’s direction, particularly as it seeks to redefine its identity and leadership structure in the wake of Raila Odinga’s passing.
