The Jubilee Party presidential flag bearer addressed residents in Nyeri Town on Wednesday, March 25, as part of a broader strategy to popularise the party and expand its influence beyond traditional strongholds.
The visit followed a similar mobilisation drive in Olkalou, Nyandarua County, signaling a sustained effort to build national momentum.
During the rally, Matiang’i urged locals to support his presidential bid, promising to replicate the reforms and efficiency he demonstrated during his tenure as a Cabinet Secretary in previous administrations.
He emphasized his track record in public service, positioning himself as a results-driven leader capable of delivering tangible change.
“Just as you saw how I worked as a minister, I will continue with the same commitment if given the opportunity to serve at the highest level,” he told the crowd.
Matiang’i also framed his campaign within the broader agenda of the United Opposition, which he said is focused not only on unseating the current administration but also on improving the livelihoods of Kenyans.
He argued that many citizens are struggling under the current regime and require a leadership shift that prioritizes economic and social transformation.
The rally attracted several local leaders who openly endorsed Matiang’i’s candidacy. Among them was former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, who expressed confidence in Matiang’i’s ability to secure overwhelming support in the region.
Wambugu told the gathering that Matiang’i does not need political intermediaries to win votes in Nyeri, assuring him of direct backing from the electorate.
The heightened campaign activity comes shortly after Jubilee Party formally aligned itself with the United Opposition, a move endorsed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The party’s National Executive Committee ratified Matiang’i as its presidential flag bearer, positioning him as a key figure in the opposition coalition.
In recent weeks, Matiang’i has also received symbolic endorsement from his Gusii community, where elders ceremonially recognized him as a regional leader and entrusted him with advancing the community’s political interests on the national stage.
His entry into Nyeri underscores the intensifying political competition as leaders begin to test their influence across regions traditionally aligned with their rivals.
